KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) hopes to see next year’s Kuching Festival to be held at bigger and grander scale along with improved facilities as compared to this year.

Organising chairman this year Cr Goh Tze Hui said the festival could be rated as one of the largest open-air functions to be held annually in Kuching.

The present festival, which is held from July 29 until August 21, consists of 333 food stalls selling different international and local delicacies, 90 operators for fair trade stalls, a garden corner, and a large stage for nightly performances, done non-stop for 24 nights.

“Kuching Festival is organised free for everybody, young and old and this is the best part for all.

“With the surging popularity of the festival, there may be a need to apply different strategies in the future to accommodate bigger crowds in festivals that are yet to come.

“I sincerely hope that with the strong support of Sarawak government and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, MBKS can make this proposal come true,” he said during the opening ceremony of the Kuching Festival Fair 2022 held at MBKS Open Stage, Kuching Park last night (August 2).

He also thanked his organising team for making the event a success and expressed his appreciation to the main sponsor, Magnum 4-D.
